Fulbourn Cinema – Midnight in Paris (12A) – Friday 18 Sept 2015
Midnight in Paris (12A)
starring Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams and Kathy Burns
2011 winner of an Oscar for best writing/original screenplay.
Written and directed by Woody Allen, this comedy/romance is “beautiful, playful and funny”. Gil, a successful Hollywood screenwriter, and his fiancee Inez, travel to Paris as a tag-along vacation on her parents’ business trip. He falls in love with the city and thinks they should move there after their marriage, but Inez does not share his romantic notions of the city or the idea that the 1920s was the golden age. Gil is struggling with his first novel but taking a walk alone at midnight he discovers what could be the ultimate source of inspiration for his writing, bringing him mysteriously into contact with the likes of Cole Porter, Zelda and F Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, Gertrude Stein, Picasso, Dali, T S Eliot, Man Ray, Matisse and others. Look out for Carla Bruni, erstwhile first-lady of France, as a museum guide!
