OAK TREE STORIES

Does this picture look familiar? These oak trees in Fulbourn Fen are an iconic local image and have stood there for generations. Imagine the stories they could tell!

Do you have a story about the oak trees? Perhaps it was a childhood memory of long ago, or maybe something much more recent. A special occasion, or a less happy time even. What do these trees mean to you? What do you think Fulbourn would be like without its trees?

We are a group from University of the Third Age Cambridge (U3AC) working on a documentary film about these trees, connected with the ‘Our Patch’ project. If you have something you could talk to us about please do get in touch.

FULBOURN ARTS HELPERS

It is now 4 years since the new committee was formed for Fulbourn Arts – and we were swiftly plunged into the restrictions, rules and regulations of the “pandemic years”! We worked very hard through the adverse conditions, and also the extended period where people were nervous about mixing in groups – it took a long time until audiences picked up again.

2023 really saw us back ‘on top form’. We put on 25 events and performances, and by the summer, we were selling out on many of them.

Getting good audiences enables us to book more, better, and more interesting events.

We know you appreciate what we do, because you tell us – we receive so much great feedback! We hear, within the wider community that Fulbourn is gaining a reputation as a village where lots of great things happen…!!

We already have several great events booked in 2024 – and are increasingly being approached by people who want to come and perform in Fulbourn.

We really need some more people to help us!

Are you interested in music (any genre), films, theatre, visual art or any other art form?

Would you like to be involved in choosing which acts to host? (or managing or advertising them?)

Or maybe you’d like to join us at some of our meetings, to contribute your thoughts and ideas – and just get involved in something that interests you at the time? You don’t need to commit to anything in particular.

When this committee first got together, we didn’t really know each other – and all we knew was that we didn’t want long boring meetings!!

We are a friendly, welcoming team! Please come and help us build on our successes!

Join us at our AGM on 12th March at 7.30 in The Six Bells – or email for more information to fulbournarts@gmail.com

PAST EVENT: Akenfield (cert 12) – 26th April

As part of the Our Patch Festival (www.fulbournourpatch.org), we screened a 50th anniversary showing of this drama-documentary about changes in a Suffolk Village over three generations. A poetic evocation of time and place, as well as a graphic portrayal of the hard realities of rural life. Directed by the great stage director Sir Peter Hall with a cast made up of local Suffolk people.

PAST EVENT: Lunana – A Yak in the classroom (PG) – 15 March

7:30pm at the Townley Memorial Hall, Fulbourn, CB21 5BS. Seating around small tables – drinks available from the bar

A beautiful and heart-warming film about an aspiring singer living with his grandmother in the capital of Bhutan who dreams of getting a visa to move to Australia but first has to do a teaching assignment in a remote Himalayan village. Amazing landscapes and absorbing storyline!
